Orange-Mango Sorbet


This week I got a new toy – a brand new Cuisinart ice cream & sorbet maker!  I’ve been seeing all these recipes on other people’s blogs for various sorbets and dairy-free ice creams made from coconut milk or nut milk and I can’t wait to try them all.  Today my first attempt was a simple orange-mango sorbet.  It was so easy and only has 3 ingredients – fresh squeezed orange juice, mango, and a little bit of agave nectar.  It was deliciously all-natural and sugar-free. 

So the first thing you have to do when you get an ice-cream maker is wash and dry it and then put the big freezer bowl in the freezer.  It’s filled with some kind of liquid that gets super-cold and will freeze the ice cream while it churns in the machine.  But you have to freeze it solid – at least 6-8 hours or overnight.  So I had to wait until this morning to try it out.  Keep it in the freezer until the moment you are ready to use it. 

Mix these ingredients in a blender:

1 and 1/2 cups fresh-squeezed orange juice (from 3-4 oranges)

1 large mango, peeled and sliced off the pit

1/4 cup agave nectar

Assemble the ice cream machine, including the frozen bowl, and turn it on.  Pour the liquid mix in through the spout at the top.  Let it churn for about 25-30 minutes.  Enjoy immediately or put it in a plastic container and freeze for later (but don’t freeze it in the freezer bowl!).
